Card Associations have established protocols for handling pre-authorization transactions.
- The deadline for pre-authorization completion varies with the card-issuing bank.
- For each pre-authorization, you can process multiple pre-authorization completions, up to the original amount.
- VISA pre-authorization transactions must be completed for the full amount within 5-7 days. If you don't complete or cancel a VISA pre-authorization transaction within the specified time frame, additional misuse of authorization charges may occur.
- Merchants with Bambora merchant accounts can cancel a pre-authorization by completing a $0 completion or a Cancel Authorization transaction within 72 hours.
