The following terms are commonly used in reference to chargebacks, and may appear on your Sales Draft Requests (SQRs) or Chargeback Advice slips.
Authorization: A credit or debit card purchase for which a merchant has received approval from the bank that issued the card.
Chargeback: A transaction dispute procedure, initiated by a cardholder which may result in a debit being applied to the customer’s account.
Expired Card: A card with an expiry date (embossed, encoded, or printed) that has passed.
Fulfilment: A document image the Merchant bank supplies in response to a Request for Information.
Issuer: Also Issuing Bank, Card Issuer. A member bank that issues cards and whose name appears on the card.
Member: An organization (bank) that signed up to operate within the terms of the card processing rules and regulations.
Request for Information (RFI): A request from the cardholder’s issuing bank for copies of a signed sales receipt or other suitable documentation to prove a transaction is valid.
Split Sale: Where a customer processes two or more transactions that exceeds their floor limit total, to avoid having to obtain a single authorization for the combined total.
